The Wounded Woman and Guiding Our Equine Practice

I shared something in my Facebook group today around the wounded woman that I wanted to land here as well…

Because whether we work with horses or we do something else, the space of tending to our wounds is important. Where I think it is amplified even more is we work with horses and we know that horses ask us to be authentic and that includes our inner work.

So I am sharing this piece today to offer some reflections and prompts around it for you as well.

The wounded woman...

At the core of my work, with each program I lead and teach and also in my own spaces of growth, I begin with this space, the wounded woman.

It is imperative as we build our practices and give courage and light into holding space for our work that we tend to our own vulnerabilities and tenderness.

Just yesterday, as I began the second cohort of the Unbridled Medicine Academy, the ladies went into sharing how deeply valuable the module of the wounded woman was, life altering, and that this is the foundation.

When we create unconsciously through our wounded self, we are going to do things like this:

  • Compromise our boundaries with our clients, or don't have them at all.

  • Undercharge our offerings because we can't witness our value or we are worrying too much what others can afford.

  • Hire mentors that are toxic to us, but promise to "save" from our debts.

  • Create offerings and take on clients that do not align nor reflect our gifts.

  • Procrastinate or not create at all because we are so rooted in doubt and in fear.

To give a bit of context into this…

How do I work around my wounded woman and how do I get out of it?

The wounded woman space was given to me by my lead mare, Aponi, when I was navigating a pattern of hiring toxic mentors for alot of money. Taking me more into my fear and second guessing myself and heavy into debt and I was tired and frustrated about being here again.

And so she enlightened me and introduced me to the wounded woman archetype.

And I sat with this…

Who is my wounded woman? Where does she manifest in my life? What are her fears, her beliefs and where she moves and creates from?

I want to be conscious of her so she doesn't create unconsciously through me.

And then on the other side of that, who is my wise woman, empowered woman, or awakened woman that can be my balancer?

What are her beliefs, her wisdom and how can she support my wounded woman and also have me navigate to a different space?

If you are creating and living predominantly through your wounded woman, you will recreate patterns, stay in fear and in doubt, and also no fun.

You need to look at how you hold space for yourself, tend your beliefs, access your inner empowerment. If you want to create success, this is essential.

So this is the encouragement I offer to you today, and I invite you to sit with it...

Love your mentor and guide,

Hillary
